Dancers study for many years to perform in ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty.  A school in the USA - called American Ballet Theatre (JKO) School - prepares dancers for roles in classical ballets.  Its students learn variations such as the Aurora and Bluebird, which were mentioned in our story, Sus-sous at the Ballet.  The American Ballet Theatre (JKO) School is located in New York City - and students come from many parts of the world to study there! The school mentioned in our story, Sus-sous at the Ballet, is called 'Palais Garnier Ecole de Danse'.  This is a fictional school created for the book.  The real school in France is called the 'Ballet School of the Opera National de Paris' - and it has been teaching dance students since 1713!  Click on the photo to see info about this important historic ballet school.

In our story, Sus-sous at the Ballet, Miss Collette explains how a young girl was inspired by The Sleeping Beauty ballet.  This girl was named Anna Pavlova - and she studied dance at a famous school in Russia, called The Imperial Ballet School.  In the 21st century this school is called the Vaganova Ballet Academy (and our above-the-ceiling resources include this school's info too). Vaganova Ballet Academy has a 'sister school' in Washington, DC: it is called The Kirov Academy of Ballet.  Many wonderful artists from Russia (and other parts of the world) teach ballet at this school.  And students at The Kirov Academy learn variations from The Sleeping Beauty and other ballets created in Russia!  Click on the photo to see info about this wonderful ballet school.

Our story, Sus-sous at the Ballet, links you to some beautiful performances of The Sleeping Beauty.  Some of these videos feature a company called The Royal Ballet, which is located in the United Kingdom (England).  Students in the UK study for years to appear in ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty!  The school which provides training for this marvelous ballet company is called The Royal Ballet School.  Click on the photo to see info about this wonderful school.

In our story, Sus-sous at the Ballet, Miss Collette explains about a young dancer named Anna Pavlova.  After seeing The Sleeping Beauty ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre, Anna wanted to study ballet very much!  She worked quite hard and was accepted into a school called The Imperial Ballet School in Russia.  Anna became a very famous ballerina and danced all over the world.  Now the school where Anna studied ballet is called the Vaganova Ballet Academy and its students still study on a street called Theatre Street.  If you look at the picture below, you will see the street where this famous school is located.
